What to Expect on the Canadian Citizenship English Test?

The Canadian written citizenship test comprises 20 questions that are related to the rights and responsibilities of Canadians. Some of the key topics covered include; symbols, geography, economy, laws, history, and economy amongst others.

Canadian Citizenship English TestAll the questions on the test are derived from Canada’s official citizenship study guide. Therefore, if you take your time to go through this guide, you will be able to pass the exam without any problems.

Kindly note that this test is only applicable to individuals aged 18 to 54 years. Adults aged over 55 and minors under 18 won’t be asked to take the test.

There are a lot of misconceptions out there regarding this test. You may have heard that it’s so complicated or very easy. Well, it’s neither. The test is like any other test. Those who study and familiarize themselves with the topics mentioned above will pass. And those who don’t may not be so lucky.

If you score below a 15, you’ll be rescheduled to re-take the test in about three to four weeks. Should you not pass the second test you’ll be asked for an interview that will last approximately 30-90 minutes. The citizenship officer will check your understanding of Canada and any language barriers that may be present.

Join a review class or start one. The Immigration Centre in Canada provides free citizenship classes that will require you to commit two hours every week for about six weeks. During these classes you can engage the tutor who will assist you in understanding how best you should answer your questions. If your language benchmark is 4 or above you are eligible to join and alternatively, you can start your own review class.
